Adding To My Curvy Closet

Today I went to Curvy Chic Closet in Aloha Oregon.  Through the awesome power of social networking I found out about this great event via Facebook and I am so glad I did!  It was held at a church and was packed full of clothing, shoes and purses from all different decades in all different sizes.  It was also a consignment sale so people were able to sell their clothes for cash!  I managed to find a vintage print blouse for $4.00, a semi-sheer white blouse for $5.00 and a grey and black infinity dress from SWAK for $10.50!  3 great finds and all for less than $20 dollars!

In he first pictures I am wearing my vintage print blouse paired with an a-line black knit skirt I made myself.  It's kind of a wardrobe staple for me.  I have about 3 different styles of black skirts to go with any occasion.  I wore a black bandeau top underneath the blouse and pulled it all together with my black and silver belt.

This top actually is rather tight on me, I have a big bust and broad  shoulders, but I had to have it so I made it work in my wardrobe.  I think I want to be more daring with clothes.  If they don't fit exactly how they should I shouldn't dismiss them.  No one can actually tell that under this skirt the top is unbuttoned and holding on for dear life.  All that really matters is I love it and I think it looks fabulous on me!

In this next outfit I used the semi-sheer white blouse I bought at the sale and combine it with an old tank dress that was one of my first sewing projects from a few years back.   Once again all of the buttons wouldn't connect so I just tied the shirt off under the bust.

Big thanks to Curvy Chic Closet for the great deals.  Next time I'm going opening day.  More deals to find that way!

Closet Diving with Crystal!

Today wanted to talk about how I'm going to start incorporating videos into my blog more. To kick it all off I interviewed a good friend of mine Crystal, who is also on YourTube's Project Lifesize channel as Wednesday.  My main focus of this video is of course fat fashion.  Crystal is a very fashionable woman who takes risks, has fun with her style and wears what she wants,  never what she's told to.  So please enjoy the video!

I also have some exciting news!  My Batiks in Bloom blog post has been featured in Plus Model Magazines Fashion Friday section!  I was so flattered when they emailed me asking to use my photo and info on their site.  Plus I love the idea of it.  Featuring posts from fabulous plus size fashion bloggers, each with their own unique style.

Don't forget to check out my store for fabulous plus size fashion finds at!

Batiks in Bloom

I used to work in a fabric warehouse that sold mostly quilting fabrics and notions.  Quilting never really was something that struck my interest,  at least not in the same way sewing and designing clothes did.  I was limited on what I could buy, to makes clothes with, while working there since not many fabrics stretched and I love fabrics that are comfortable.  I did however fall in love with Batiks.  These beautiful dipped dyed fabrics that I got to see come right off the 10,000 yard rolls into my department to be made into sample swatch kits.  I knew I wanted to work with Batiks more.  Their feel, weight, designs, colors,  everything about them was appealing.

Fast forward about 8 years later,  I was shopping in Fabric Depot and I saw a Batik that caught my eye.  The colors and patterns reminded of me a city scape at dusk.  I wanted it right then and there only to find out it's 109 inches wide.  It was actually made for a quilt back.  Which to me was a double score since that meant twice as much fabric!

Recently I have been working on full circle skirts to sell in my shop and oh darn, I just have to experiment with fabrics for girls around my size.  So I used my killer find of a Batik and sure enough, the pattern for my size uses quite a bit of fabric. So the extra width was perfect and it turned out exactly as I had hoped!   So on this glorious early spring day we are having here in Portland I thought I would take the opportunity to get some pictures of my todays fabulous outfit.
