2015 Roundup

I knew when 2015 started this was going to be my year.  I just had the feeling in my gut that it would be a year of healing (literally) and a great year for my business.  Both of which came true and have uplifted my life in so many great ways.

Personally,  I was on track to mend my left eye after having a cornea transplant in fall of 2014.  It was long, painful, expensive and at times full of tears but it was so unbelievably worth it.  I have regained my sight back in my left eye and I felt like I got part of my life back with it.  Up next is my right eye to have surgery on in 2016 but knowing more of what to expect this time around makes it all so much less scary and stressful.

Professionally is where 2015 really got to shine.  The year started off with being asked to participate in a long running Unmentionables lingerie fashion show put on by Siren Nation and the local brand/shop Altar.  I had never made lingerie before so I wasn't sure how I was going to do with it but I pulled it off and with that was the first collection for my shop in 2015.  We got amazing feedback from the audience at the show as well which boosted my confidence with the designs i had made.  The Intimates Collection launch was also the introduction of my best selling item the Diet Industry Dropout shirt!  Photos by Beth Olsen Creative and Klang Photography.

My next collection was a collaboration with one of my favorite people in the world.  My dear friend Courtney of The Glitter Thread.  She is a body positive blogger, writer, model and more.  We have been long distance friends for years but with her living in Ontario Canada we never got to see each other.  So when I came up with the idea to do a blogger clothing collaboration line with her as a perfect excuse to have her visit we jumped right on it!

Courtney's style is very feminine/fantasy/regal so we played on that creating another best selling piece in my shop.  The Boleyn dress for the Curves Reign Collection.   Her visit was so much fun and we created such gorgeous work together.  I can't wait to work with her again in 2016!  Photography by Nicole Kondra

Something happened this year that I never expected in a million years but will forever be grateful for.   I got a text message from Plus Model Tess Holiday telling me that she was asked to do a shoot for People Magazine and that she wore a bodysuit I designed and had sent to her for the shoot!  I was thrilled that she would even consider wearing something of mine for a shoot and was looking forward to what they put together.  I also thought this would be a like 1 page feature in the magazine or the website as I had no idea what to expect till I woke up one morning to another text from Tess telling me she is on the cover of People Magazine and she is wearing my clothing!  I was dumbfounded and at a loss for words.  My little shop that I started and still till this day work from out of my apartment has had it's clothing on the cover of a People Magazine on an international plus size model!  Tess has always been a great supporter of my shop and dreams so when I say I love her and am eternally grateful to her for this opportunity, I mean it completely.

I had been planning a big summer collection for months.  Wild prints, bright colors and just tons of pieces!  I got my best ladies on the job for modeling and photography.  And it was a smashing success and was my best selling collection on record for my shop!  The Summer Babe Collection!  Photos by Klang Photography

Another collaboration I did this year was with this amazing 90's inspired party girl, and my friend,  named Coco and she is a stylish fat babe to the max.  She runs some of Portland's best club nights like SNAP90's Dance Party.  And what does a party girl need more than anything?  A custom piece of clothing she asked me to make to become a staple piece in my shop!  Very mid to late summer we came out with the Coco dress and rencently came out with new colors for fall!  It's a skater dress make of gorgeous light weight mesh material perfect to wear with as much or as little as you like.  It was so much fun working with this girl. She is just fantastic!

I was asked to partake in the Alley33 fashion show which has been going on for years and is a staple for the Portland Indie designer scene.  A brilliant ready to wear fashion show held in the alley on 33rd and Hawthorne in SE Portland.  I jumped at the chance and was again the only plus designer in the show but was met with nothing but positivity! wrote up in their review of the show "Amelia Boutique headlined, but it was Chubby Cartwheels, a raucously fun line of plus-size designs, that seemed to steal the show."  I died of happiness.

I took a bit of a break and had an adventure over to England to visit family and friends for 2 weeks at the end of September for my 5 year wedding anniversary as well as my father-in-law's wedding.  It was such a magical adventure!

And once I returned back to reality I put together my final collection of the year.  It went out a bit later than I had hoped but it was still gorgeous and I got to meet and work with a beautiful model named Saucye West from San Fransisco.  She was a total delight and I loved working with her and my long time model Leigh for this project.

2015 you were amazing!

New Chubby Cartwheels Fall/Winter Collection

I am super happy to announce my new pieces have gone live today!  The Fall/Winter 2015 Collection.  It's must smaller and subtle than previous collections but I wanted to put out something a little different.  I had the most gorgeous and lovely models Saucy West and Leigh Richards who are very different in size, shape and looks so I could showcase how all the pieces would looks on different bodies.  I hope you enjoy it!

Rebdolls Review

You are seeing the name everywhere.  Rebdolls is gracing the cover of Skorch Magazine and being worn by all the top bloggers and fashionistas in the game.

And I was told that not long ago they extended their sizes to go up to 5x in most pieces I believe.  So when I heard this I realized I needed to get my hands on some of their clothes.  I wanted to know what the fit was going to be like on people my size and shape so not only could I find out if this would be a new favorite shopping site, but so I could also let the larger sized fatties out there know if they are covered.

I picked out their Cuddle Ready Crop Turtleneck and Longline Midi Skater Skirt in black.  My first ever midi skirt as well.  I have the shortest legs for someone my height (5'7) so skirts always looks different on my body.

When they arrived I couldn't put them on fast enough.  The skirt I had to order in a 4x as the 5x was sold out.  I was praying it would fit me still as it has an elastic waist band and lucky for me it totally fit!  Granted I was wearing it really high up on my body but thats how I would have worn the 5x too so it all worked out.  I actually loved the length.  Again, midi skirts are a new thing for me so comfort wise I wasn't sure how I was going to like it.  Thankfully I totally was into the look and will getting more in the future.

The top coming out of the package was SO CUTE.  The fabric is this super textured heather grey knit fabric.  I always worry with crops from other companies because my boobs are large and I always worry they wont be covered.  My fears were put to rest as they were well covered.  I bought the 5x in the top and it was a bit snug but mostly in the arms.  Now the fabric of the shirt isn't as stretchy as the skirt or a normal t-shirt would be so my guess is that would be why.  But if you have larger arms be aware it will be a big of a snugger fit.  Not impossible to wear or even uncomfortable, just snug.

The final product was great!  I felt very cute and stylish in these new pieces.  The fit was pretty good and I bet would be even better in a fabric that has more stretch than the turtleneck has.  So I am giving major approval for Rebdolls as far as the larger end of the size scale goes.  I can't wait to try more!

Holiday Party Ready

I wanted to plan early what I would wear out for possible holiday parties this year.  I always leave it to the last minute and all I can find are dresses that I will wear once and then it will sit in my closet forever.  So when I had to the chance to get a black tutu skirt from Society+ I jumped on it because of how versatile both pieces featured here could be!  Next time I will go with the midi length for a more formal look but this length is fun and more party style friendly so I am happy with that.

I paired the skirt here with a long sleeve black lace bodysuit from my shop Chubby Cartwheels.  Again, a piece that can work well with SO many other looks.  Jeans, shorts, skirts of all lengths and more.

And the accessory to put all other accessories to shame is my gold leaf crown  from a fabulous Etsy shop called Florence Mercato.  Though it was a one of a kind piece she has tons of gorgeous statement pieces.
Add the convertible clutch/cross body bag from Torrid, my new gold embellished purse helped bring the gold of the headband together with the rest of the look.  I do feel a bit naked without my glasses which I will probably add to the look when I finally wear it out.
